All Endings – Good, Bad, and True Explained
Hogwarts Legacy offers a grand magical journey, but how you conclude that journey is entirely up to you. Whether you choose to protect ancient magic or harness its power for yourself, the ending you get reflects the wizard or witch you’ve become.
This guide breaks down every possible ending in Hogwarts Legacy, including the Good Ending, Bad Ending, and the True Ending (if you're aiming to complete everything).
Warning… Major spoilers ahead!
How Many Endings Are in Hogwarts Legacy?
There are two main narrative endings—Good and Bad—determined by a single choice at the climax of the final main quest, The Final Repository. There’s also a True Ending, which acts as a post-game finale unlocked by completing 100% of the story content.
The Big Decision: Which Ending Will You Choose?
During The Final Repository quest, you’ll journey with Professor Fig to the ancient magical vault hidden beneath Hogwarts. Once you reach the final chamber, Fig asks you a pivotal question:
“What do you intend to do with the magic in the repository?”
You’re then given two choices:
“I intend to keep it contained.” = Good Ending
“I intend to open it.” = Bad Ending
Let’s go over what happens after each choice, and cover one other additional “true” ending:
Good Ending: Keeper of the Vault
Choosing to keep the magic contained honors the Keepers’ wishes and upholds their legacy.
What Happens:
Fig sighs in relief, supporting your decision to safeguard the world from Isidora’s mistakes.
You use the Keepers’ Wand to seal away the ancient magic.
Professor Fig sadly dies from injuries sustained during the battle with Ranrok.
A heartwarming scene follows in the Great Hall, where the Hogwarts staff honors Fig’s memory.
Ominis Gaunt shares a surprising revelation: Victor Rookwood—not the Goblins—was behind Anne’s curse.
Spring arrives. Your fifth year isn’t over yet, but the dark magic has been stopped—for good.
This is the most heroic and canon-friendly ending, perfect for noble Gryffindors and thoughtful Ravenclaws.
Bad Ending: Master of Ancient Magic
Choosing to open the repository reveals your hunger for power—or your belief that ancient magic can be wielded responsibly.
What Happens:
Fig is shocked and pleads with you to reconsider.
You double down, insisting that the magic shouldn't be contained—or even that you want it for yourself.
Fig dies during the same battle, still conflicted over your choice.
After defeating Ranrok, instead of sealing the magic, you absorb it into your body.
Your eyes glow red with power as you channel and control the magic around the chamber.
This is the darker ending—an unsettling conclusion for those who flirted with power throughout the game (especially if you leaned into the Dark Arts).
The “True” Ending: 100% Completion Finale
There’s no third cinematic ending, but there is a post-game reward for seeing everything through.
To unlock the True Ending:
Finish all four House-exclusive Trials
Complete all Main Quests
Finish all Relationship Side Quests (Sebastian, Poppy, and Natty)
Reach Level 34 (required to complete the final main quest)
Complete the Field Guide and optional assignments
Once these are done, you’ll be called to attend your OWL Exams—a final quest that wraps up your fifth year at Hogwarts.
While this doesn’t offer a new cutscene per se, it’s considered the true ending of the game, marking your official graduation from story content.
Which Ending Should You Choose?
Here’s a quick breakdown of each ending and who it might appeal to:
Good Ending
How to get it: Choose “I intend to keep it contained.”
Tone: Heroic, emotional
Best for: Players who want to protect the world from dangerous magic and stay true to the Keeper's teachings. Ideal for Gryffindors, Hufflepuffs, or any good-hearted witch or wizard.
Bad Ending
How to get it: Choose “I intend to open it.”
Tone: Dark, power-hungry
Best for: Players who want to embrace ancient power, make bold (and risky) choices, or roleplay as a morally complex character. Great for Slytherins or fans of the Dark Arts.
True Ending
How to get it: Complete all main quests, side quests (especially companion stories), and reach Level 34.
Tone: Satisfying and conclusive
Best for: Completionists who want to tie up every loose end and finish the school year properly with the OWLs.
Important Note:
Your house, wand, and use of Unforgivable Curses do not affect which ending you get. The only thing that matters is the final dialogue choice in The Final Repository quest.
Post-Game Quests: What Happens After the Ending
Just when you think your magical journey has wrapped up... there’s still a bit more to do! After completing The Final Repository quest (regardless of the ending you choose), you’ll unlock two final post-game main quests that serve as the epilogue to your Hogwarts adventure.
These quests offer a bit of closure, recognition, and even a trophy ceremony. Because let’s face it, you’ve earned it.
Main Quests:
Ready to Graduate?
Finish these three quests to see your journey through to the very end. Then, with your Field Guide in hand and your house colours flying high, you’re officially done with the main story.
Don’t stop here though! There’s still plenty to do around Hogwarts and beyond! Check out our top talent builds, secret locations, and easter egg guides to make the most of your magical adventure.
