Congratulations, young witch or wizard! You've arrived at Hogwarts, ready to embrace the magic and mystery of the castle. But before you start duelling Dark Wizards, you’ll need the right spells in your repertoire.

Best Damage Spells to Unlock First

Incendio (Fire!)

This spell sets enemies (and obstacles) ablaze, making it perfect for dealing damage in close-range combat. Plus, it’s useful for burning away webs and lighting up torches.

• Where to find it: Professor Hecat will give you Incendio after completing her first assignment.

Expelliarmus (Disarming Charm)

Expelliarmus disarms enemies, knocking wands and weapons right out of their hands! It also deals a small amount of damage, making it a very useful (and fun) combat spell.

• Where to find it: You’ll learn Expelliarmus from Professor Hecat after completing her second assignment.

Best Control Spells to Unlock First

Levioso (Levitating Spell)

Levioso suspends enemies in the air, preventing them from attacking and making them an easy target for follow-up combos. It’s also useful for puzzle-solving.

• Where to find it: You’ll learn Levioso in your first Defense Against the Dark Arts class with Professor Hecat.

Glacius (Freezing Spell)

This spell freezes enemies in place, slowing them down and giving you the upper hand in battle.

• Where to find it: You’ll unlock Glacius by completing Madam Kogawa’s first assignment.

Best Force Spells to Unlock First

Accio (Summoning Charm)

Why you need it: Accio pulls objects and enemies toward you, setting them up for devastating combos. It’s also essential for solving puzzles and grabbing hard-to-reach items.

• Where to find it: Professor Ronen teaches Accio as part of your first Charms class.

Depulso (Repelling Charm)

The opposite of Accio, Depulso blasts enemies and objects away. It’s great for crowd control and knocking enemies off ledges.

• Where to find it: You’ll unlock Depulso through an assignment from Professor Sharp.

Best Non-Combat Spells to Unlock First

Lumos (Light Spell)

Hogwarts can be pretty darn dark and eerie, and Lumos is the perfect way to light up hidden passageways and navigate shadowy areas.

• Where to find it: Lumos is automatically unlocked early in your first few lessons at Hogwarts.

Reparo (Mending Charm)

If you accidentally break something (or stumble upon a ruined structure), Reparo lets you restore objects to their original form. It’s a must-have for puzzle-solving and exploring.

• Where to find it: You’ll learn Reparo in your first Charms class from Professor Ronen.
