Overview:

Ferdinand Octavius Pratt, a talking portrait in the Library, has lost his second frame. Help him recover it from a ruin in the south.

Quest Requirements:

Main Quest Completion: In the Shadow of the Mountain

Quest Steps:

1. Speak to the Portrait in the Library:

• Find Ferdinand Octavius Pratt in the back of the Library.

• He will ask you to retrieve his second frame.

2. Talk to Astoria Crickett at the Three Broomsticks:

• Travel to Hogsmeade and speak with Astoria Crickett at the Three Broomsticks.

• She will provide information about the missing frame.

3. Find the Ruins Where Ferdinand’s Frame is Being Held:

• The ruins are located in the southern part of the map.

• Travel to the marked location.

4. Find and Speak with Ferdinand in the Ruins:

• Enter the ruins and descend the staircase near the Merlin Trial.

• If enemies are nearby, use Disillusionment to sneak past them.

• You will encounter a Level 2 locked door blocking the way.

  • To unlock it, you need Alohomora Level 2, which requires collecting 9 Demiguise Statues.

  • If you don’t have Alohomora Level 2, see All Demiguise Locations for guidance.

• After unlocking the gate, interact with Ferdinand’s frame.

5. Take Ferdinand’s Frame to the Three Broomsticks or the Hog’s Head Inn:

• Travel back to Hogsmeade.

• Place the portrait frame in either:

  • The Three Broomsticks

  • The Hog’s Head Inn

• The location does not affect the quest outcome.

Rewards:

• Conjuration Spellcraft

• 180 XP

This completes the Portrait in a Pickle side quest in Hogwarts Legacy.
