In the Shadow of the Mine – Hogwarts Legacy Main Story Walkthrough

You and Sebastian delve into the Overlook Mine to retrieve another piece of the mysterious triptych. Get ready for stealth, combat, and a bit of puzzle-solving as you uncover more about Ranrok's schemes.

Meeting Sebastian

  • Location: Head to the Overlook, just northeast of Upper Hogsfield.

  • Task: Sebastian explains that the area is depicted in the triptych, and an abandoned mine nearby is a hotbed for Ranrok’s Loyalists.

  • Approach: You can choose to sneak in using Disillusionment, fight your way through, or avoid enemies entirely as you approach the Overlook Mine.

Inside the Overlook Mine

  • Initial Combat: Once inside, take out two Loyalists guarding the entrance.

  • Navigating the Mine: Follow the path, jump gaps, and climb slopes until you reach a room with three more Loyalists. Defeat them to progress.

Collection Chests

  • First Chest: After clearing the Loyalists, head east to find a small room with a Collection Chest containing a Conjuration Recipe.

  • Second Chest: In the next passageway, use Wingardium Leviosa to move a crate and reach a higher area. At the bottom of a second slope, you’ll encounter spiders—clear them out and grab the second Collection Chest near a campfire.

Deeper into the Mine

  • Combat Arena: Continue through the mine until you reach a large arena filled with Loyalists and Thornback Spiders (including two Matriarchs). Defeat them all.

  • Rune Puzzle: After clearing the spiders, use Confringo or Incendio to burn away the webs. Hit the three rune symbols with your Basic Cast to unlock the next door.

  • The Triptych Piece: Behind the door, you’ll find the second piece of the triptych, along with a journal entry from Isidora.

Return to the Undercroft

  • Placing the Triptych: Head back to the Undercroft, where you’ll insert the second triptych piece into the wall.

  • Sebastian’s Reaction: Sebastian recognises the location in the triptych but warns of more trouble ahead. After speaking with him, the quest ends with some tension between you and him.
