Equipping the right clothing and accessories directly boosts your Offence and Defence stats– making a huge difference in your magical performance during combat, exploration, and boss fights! All Gear Types in Hogwarts Legacy
Your character’s loadout includes six primary gear slots. Each slot not only changes your look, but directly contributes to your combat stats.
Here’s how each one works:
Handwear (Gloves): Boosts your Offence. Sometimes fingerless. Always fierce.
Neckwear (Scarves): Also increases Offence. Ideal for staying warm and doing damage.
Cloaks and Robes: More Offence boosts (and stealthy)
Outfits (Uniforms, Coats, Jumpsuits): Boosts Defence. Comes in everything from Hogwarts house colours to full-on battle attire.
Headwear (Hats, Helmets, etc.): Increases Defence. Committing fully to the wizard hat aesthetic is optional
Facewear (Glasses, Masks): Boosts Defence, even if it's just a fashionable monocle or dark wizard mask.
In addition, the gear menu includes cosmetic-only slots for your Wand Handle, Broom, and Flying Mounts. These don’t affect stats, but they do affect your coolness level.
Gear Rarity and Stats Explained
Gear comes in five rarity tiers, indicated by colour:
Standard (Grey/Blue): Starter gear. No stats or upgrades.
Well-Appointed (Green): Common gear with modest stats. Cannot be upgraded or modified.
Superb (Blue): Offers better stats, upgradeable, and includes a Trait Slot (Level 1).
Extraordinary (Purple): Higher stats, upgradeable, with a Trait Slot (Level 2).
Legendary (Gold): Top-tier gear with the best base stats, upgrade potential, and a Trait Slot (Level 3).
Legendary gear from vendors has empty trait slots, while gear from chests may come with a random trait already equipped.
Where to Get New Gear
You’ll be swimming in loot before long, but not all gear is equal, or obvious to find. Here's where to look:
Loot Chests: Found everywhere. Exploration-inclined players will uncover plenty in caves, ruins, secret rooms, and behind puzzles.
Bandit Camps & Combat Encounters: Defeat dark wizards or poachers and loot their stylishly evil robes.
Quest & Challenge Rewards: Main story missions and side quests often drop useful gear. Completing Combat, Exploration, and Room of Requirement Challenges also gives you some killer threads.
Merchants (Like Gladrags): You’ll find rotating gear for sale in Hogsmeade and other vendor spots. Reopen the world map or skip time to refresh their stock.
Exclusive & Limited-Time Gear:
Dark Arts Set: Comes with the Deluxe Edition or via a separate Dark Arts pack.
House Fanatic Robes / Bejeweled Mask: Earned by linking a WB Games account with Wizarding World.
Twitch Drops: Promotional gear like Merlin’s Cloak.

Gear Stats and Levels Explained
Gear doesn’t just look cool, it directly affects your Offence and Defence, which determine how much damage you deal and take.
Each item has a level requirement. If you're underleveled, you can’t equip it yet.
Even items of the same rarity and level can have wildly different stats.
Max stats cap at 450 Offence and 450 Defence, achievable only with fully upgraded Level 40 Legendary gear.
So, the best loadout at max level will include:
Six Legendary pieces (with 114 base + 36 upgraded stats per item)

Traits are optional enchantments that add bonus effects to your gear. Think of them as magical mods. Some boost specific spell damage, while others reduce incoming damage from certain enemy types. It’s basically a build-your-own-buff system for your wizard wardrobe.
Trait Slots by Gear Rarity
Superb (Blue) – Can equip Tier 1 traits only
Extraordinary (Purple) – Can equip Tier 1 and Tier 2 traits
Legendary (Gold) – Can equip Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 traits (the strongest)
Where to Find Traits
Bandit Camp Collection Chests – These usually contain randomised offensive traits
Quests & Challenges – Certain main quests and Field Guide challenges unlock specific traits (e.g., Ancient Magic or defensive traits)
Trait Recipes – Once found, recipes are automatically added to your collection for unlimited use

Open your Gear Menu, select any slot, and choose “Change Appearance”.
Every look you’ve ever owned is stored forever; even if you sell or destroy the original item.
