How to Beat Ranrok in Hogwarts Legacy

Your Ultimate Guide to “The Final Repository” Boss Fight

Ranrok is the final boss of Hogwarts Legacy and your ultimate test as a witch or wizard. This three-phase dragon showdown during The Final Repository quest demands quick reflexes, strategic spell use, and solid preparation. If you're ready to bring the curtain down on the goblin rebellion, this is how to get it done. Here's your complete step-by-step guide to defeating Ranrok and ensuring that you get the “good” or “bad” ending that you’ve intended. 

Step 1: Come Prepared (Seriously)

Once you start the The Final Repository quest and head into the caves, there’s no turning back until Ranrok is toast. So before you jump in, make sure you've suited up and stocked up.

Potions You’ll Want:

  • Wiggenweld Potions – Heals. Bring a ton. You’ll use them.

  • Maxima Potions – Big damage = big win.

  • Focus Potions – Shorter spell cooldowns? Yes, please.

  • Edurus Potions – Toughen up to tank his fire blasts.

You can stack potion effects for mega results!

Gear & Traits:

  • Wear your best gear (obviously).

  • Add traits at the Loom that boost Ancient Magic, spell power, or defense.

Spells to Pack:

Make sure you have at least one spell of each colour:

  • Red (Damage) – Confringo, Diffindo

  • Yellow (Control) – Levioso, Glacius

  • Purple (Force) – Accio, Depulso

Use your Spell Knowledge Talents to hot-swap between sets like a magical ninja.

Talents That Make You a Boss:

  • Swift – Dodging is life.

  • Wiggenweld Potency I & II – More healing, less dying.

  • Spell Masteries – Boosts for Confringo, Diffindo, Bombarda, etc.

  • Ancient Magic Expertise – Because it’s awesome.

Step 2: The Final Repository – Let’s Do This

Before the boss, you’ll fight through waves of goblins, trolls, and Pensieve Guardians with a little help from your Hogwarts professors.

Then you’ll reach the Repository Chamber, where you make the Big Choice™:

  • “I intend to keep it contained” = Good Ending

  • “I intend to open it” = Bad Ending (but cool cloak)

Both choices result in the confrontation with Ranrok and events immediately afterwards

Step 3: The Ranrok Fight – 3 Phases of Mayhem

Phase 1: Warm-Up (Literally)

  • Arena: Stone platform, Ranrok’s flying overhead.

  • Attacks: Fireballs, unblockable blasts, lava breath.

  • What to do:

    • Break the coloured orbs with the matching spell colour.

    • When the shield drops, blast him with everything you’ve got.

    • Use Ancient Magic when he’s vulnerable!

Once he’s had enough, he’ll fly off—onto round two.

Phase 2: Two Orbs, Twice the Trouble

  • New arena, more fire, and now you have to destroy TWO orbs per cycle.

  • Watch out for his red glowing “explosion of doom” attack. Run away when you see it charging!

Do This:

  • Stay fast and agile.

  • Keep your potions flowing.

  • Use Ancient Magic Throw to chuck stuff right back at him!

Survive this, and it's time for the big finish.

Phase 3: The Final Showdown

  • Huge circular arena. Ranrok’s mad now.

  • You’ll need to destroy THREE orbs per shield phase (and FOUR at the very end).

  • His attacks get wild: dragon dives, fire traps, and rapid-fire chaos.

Do This:

  • Stay on the move.

  • Hit those orbs fast.

  • Stack Maxima + Focus + Edurus Potions to go full beast mode yourself.

When he’s down to zero health, smash the final set of orbs to end it all.

What Happens After Ranrok Is Defeated

  • Professor Fig dies. Yeah, we know… it hurts.

  • Hogwarts holds a ceremony in his honor.

  • If you picked the “bad” ending, you don’t actually get to keep the power (kinda lame, we know).

TL;DR Tips for Victory

  • Orb smashing = priority #1.

  • Hotbar spell sets with all 3 colours.

  • Don’t hoard potions. Come with plenty and chug them use them when things get intense.

  • Keep cool, stay mobile, and know when to strike. Don’t rush, don’t get greedy.

  • Ancient Magic is crucial, so use it wisely.
