How to Beat the Pensieve Guardian
Charles Rookwood’s Trial – Boss Guide for Hogwarts Legacy
Welcome back to the Pensieve battleground! Just when you thought you'd mastered golem battles, the next trial throws a tougher, trickier version of the Pensieve Guardian at you. This one is smarter, hits harder, and features a few extra magical mechanics to keep you on your toes.
Before the Battle: Prepare, Prepare, Prepare
Stock up on Wiggenweld Potions. You’ll need them. The Guardian’s upgraded attacks do big damage.
Keep Ancient Magic Throw in mind for dealing with certain summoned hazards.
Prep your spell loadout. It should be something like this:
Confringo, Diffindo, Expelliarmus, and Glacius (this time, a freeze can come in handy).Defensive spells like Protego and Dodgeroll are crucial! Don’t forget about those.
Phase One: A Familiar Start
Just like in Rackham’s Trial, the fight begins with waves of Pensieve Soldiers. You’ve done this before:
Take cover behind pillars to avoid getting surrounded.
Use Protego and Stupefy to control the chaos.
Build up Ancient Magic– you’ll need it later.
Dodge when the ground lights up or your head glows.
Throw environmental objects with Ancient Magic Throw to crowd control.
Phase 2: The Upgraded Guardian Awaits
Here comes the new and improved Pensieve Guardian. This version includes everything the first one had... plus a few surprises.
What’s New This Time Around?
The coloured orb mechanic returns, but this Guardian now throws faster and more frequent orbs.
It summons two or more floating orbs at once in later stages. So managing spell cooldowns is crucial.
The Guardian occasionally teleports across the arena. Keep your camera locked on it at all times.
It now uses a circular AoE blast in addition to its usual stomp, so don’t stay too close for too long.
Key Attacks to Watch For
1. Coloured Orb Shields (Enhanced):
Red, Yellow, and Purple orbs appear more often and sometimes in pairs.
Destroy orbs with the matching spell type:
Red = Confringo / Incendio
Yellow = Glacius / Arresto Momentum
Purple = Accio / Depulso
Hitting the correct orb stuns the Guardian and opens a massive damage window.
2. Teleport Slam:
The Guardian will vanish, then reappear with a charged stomp.
Watch for a faint shimmer or magical wind effect before the strike.
Dodge the moment it materialises.
3. Twin Orb Laser (Late Phase):
In the final third of the fight, two floating orbs will begin alternating energy blasts at you.
These cannot be destroyed but can be blocked. Use Protego + Stupefy wisely.
Use Ancient Magic. It’s Now More Valuable Than Ever
Use Ancient Magic right after the Guardian is stunned by a spell orb.
You can get off two Ancient Magic attacks if you’ve built up enough in Phase 1.
Watch for the Ancient Magic prompt to appear above the Guardian’s head. It’s easiest to spot when standing back.
Use Movement. Stay Light on Your Feet
The Guardian’s combos are tighter and faster. Don’t get greedy with your attacks.
If it gets back up while you're too close, you might get caught in its recovery burst.
Constant movement is the key. Cast, dodge, reposition, repeat.
Great! Now Rinse and Repeat
The core strategy remains:
Dodge the Guardian’s AoEs and attacks.
Destroy coloured orbs with matching spells to stagger it.
Unload your strongest spells and Ancient Magic while it's stunned.
Keep moving and manage cooldowns carefully.
Once the last chunk of its health is gone, the mighty stone Guardian will crumble before you, leaving behind the echo of Rookwood’s memories and a big step forward in your magical journey.
