Ready for your first real trial? The Pensieve Guardian stands tall (literally) as your magical rite of passage. This thing is towering, ancient, and built entirely from mystical stone– but don’t worry! With a little planning, fast reflexes, and this handy guide, you’ll reduce this giant to mystical dust!
Before the Battle: Prepare, Prepare, Prepare
Before jumping into the action:
Pack your potions! Have a good supply of Wiggenweld Potions ready. You can gather these as you explore the trial, but better safe than sorry. Check out our Ultimate Potions Guide for more help with this!
Make sure your loadout contains enough damage. Your spell set should include heavy hitters like Expelliarmus, Confringo, Diffindo, and Incendio. Defensive or control spells like Levioso won’t cut it here.
Phase One: Clean Up the Pensieve Soldiers
The Guardian isn’t alone. You’ll first face waves of Pensieve soldiers, both large and small.
How to handle them:
Use pillars and cover to avoid being overwhelmed.
Focus on building up your Ancient Magic meter by stringing together combos.
Save that Ancient Magic for the Guardian!
Protego + Stupefy will be your bread and butter here.
Dodge away from glowing floor circles– those are enemy spawn zones!
If your head glows, incoming! Either a thrown object or an attack is on its way so dodge immediately!
Phase Two: Battling the Pensieve Guardian
Now it’s just you, your spells, and a giant ancient golem with a grudge. Let’s break down its moveset:
Stomp Attack (Unblockable)
The Guardian slams the ground, sending out shockwaves in a straight line.
Watch for red warning sigils over your head because this attack can't be blocked!
Dodge sideways at the last second to avoid the shockwave.
The Guardian may chain multiple stomps together, so stay sharp!
Magic Orb Attack (Coloured Shields)
The Guardian throws large orbs (yellow, red, or purple) to generate shields.
Use spells of the matching colour to destroy the orbs:
Red orb → Confringo/Incendio
Yellow orb → Levioso/Arresto Momentum
Purple orb → Accio/Depulso
Destroying the orb stuns the Guardian and deals big damage.
Sneak in attacks while it’s summoning the orb.
Small Side Orb (Energy Shots)
A persistent orb floats beside the Guardian and shoots at you.
This is the only blockable attack.
When you see a gold sigil, cast Protego, then counter with Stupefy if timed well.
What to Do: Use Your Ancient Magic Wisely
Now’s the time to cash in that meter!
Ancient Magic attacks will stun and massively damage the Guardian.
When stunned, look for yellow damage numbers. This is your golden window to spam spells!
Look for the Ancient Magic prompt above the Guardian’s head when it's low. Back up if you're too close to see it.
Build more Ancient Magic by:
Chaining combos,
Dodging precisely,
Destroying the coloured orbs.
What to Do: Stay Nimble, Stay Alive
Keep moving at all times. The Guardian ’s AoEs are punishing if you stand still.
After it's stunned, run out of the glowing ring it leaves behind before it recovers or you'll take damage.
Great! Now Rinse and Repeat
It’s all about the rhythm:
Dodge the stomp.
Break the coloured orbs.
Unload spells while it's stunned.
Use Ancient Magic when available.
Repeat until victory.
